Formal Masquerade Ball

Dust off your bow ties and glass slippers for our formal dance!  This elegant evening will feature traditional and modern music for all skill levels of dance — or just come to share the evening and socialize with your well-heeled friends! At our masquerade ball, you can wear your most elegant costumes or formalwear and dance the night away!

Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about this event:

  • What is the dress code?

Formal dress is required for this event. For ladies (or those dressed as ladies), this would include an evening gown, cocktail dress, pants suit, or military dress uniform. For gentlemen (or those dressed as gentlemen), this would include a suit, tuxedo, or military dress uniform. Lolita fashions are welcome. Please do not wear jeans, T-shirts, or rave gear to this event. Shoes must be worn at all times.

  • Are cosplay and crossplay allowed?

Certainly! We only ask that costumes be tasteful and comply with the formal dress code. Please do not wear unsealed body paint or special effects makeup.  If you are wearing body makeup, you must demonstrate that it will not rub off on other people’s clothing if you brush against them while dancing.

  • I don’t have a costume. Can I still attend?

Of course! Just wear your best formal fashions. This is the perfect chance to reuse that prom dress, suit, or wedding party outfit hanging in your closet! Even if you aren’t in costume, elegant masks are encouraged. (It is a masquerade ball, after all!)

  • Is there an admission cost?

Nope! Admission to the formal ball is included with your AWX 2015 badge.

  • My only experience with ballroom dancing is watching Dancing With The Stars. What do I do?

Never fear; we’ll have a short dance lesson before the event, so you can learn a few steps! And our professional DJ will spin a wide variety of music, so we guarantee there will be at least a few songs you know.
